Something magical is happening at the Neptune Studio this week. The audacious young company Vile Passéist has created a unique piece of theatre that adds modern music to a 17th-century comedy to form a highly entertaining hybrid. The story centres on a fiery woman named Moll (played beautifully by Karen Lizotte) who flies against gender stereotypes and lives life as she pleases. Moll’s help is enlisted by a pair of young lovers (Michael Robson and Clara Bullock) to trick the young man’s haughty dad (Gary Williams) into allowing their marriage. The score by Jenny Trites makes the text come to life and is tunefully playful. The large cast has ample opportunity to shine, and shine they do with amusing dance numbers, gorgeous musical numbers and beautifully choreographed sword play. Fun, funny and feminist, this new play is a roaring good time. —Kate Watson
Our first review! Come out and support some local ORIGINAL theatre! I did the costumes for this, and I have to say I am SO proud (and exhausted, because WOW that was a lot of work).
Tickets:Adults $25Students/Seniors/Artists/Underwaged $15This popular comedy tells the story of the brawling, cross-dressing, “roaring” bully, Moll Cutpurse, as she takes on the unlikely task of helping two young Londoners find love. This begins a chain of disguises, plots, skirmishes, and love-triangles, each more outrageous than the last, featuring fantastic new music by Jenny Trites and a stellar ensemble cast! One of the inaugural recipients of the Neptune/Theatre Nova Scotia Open Spaces Grant, this will be VPT’s first show at the Neptune Studio Theatre. For more info about VPT, visit http://vilepasseist.com/Written by Thomas Middleton and Thomas DekkerDirector/Adaptor: Dan BrayComposer/Accompanist: Jenny TritesMusic Director: Emily ShuteAssistant Director/Choreographer: Holly ArsenaultStage Managers: Alison House and Tessa Pekeles Assistant Stage Manager: Eric FitzpatrickTechnical Director/Lighting Designer: Matt DowneyCostume/Poster Designer: Jordyn BochonSet Designer: Dorian LangFight Coach: Dave RossettiFeaturing: Kristi Anderson, Francesca Barnett-Cowan, Clara Bullock, Mike Chandler, Pasha Ebrahimi, Zach Faye, Eric Fitzpatrick, Daniel Gervais, Henricus Gielis, Kyle Gillis, Ira Henderson, Karen Lizotte, Colleen MacIsaac, Keith Morrison, Jolene Pattison, Jesse Robb, Michael Robson, and Garry Williams.
